Alexander Callens scored in the 41st minute, and New York City FC cruised into the quarterfinals of CONCACAF Champions League with a 1-0 win over AD San Carlos of Costa Rica on Wednesday at Harrison, N.J.

NYCFC prevailed 6-3 on total goals in the two-legged series. Next up for New York City is a matchup with Mexico's Tigres, who pulled out a 5-4 aggregate win over El Salvador's Alianza FC.

The decisive moment Tuesday came when Alexandru Mitrita sent in a corner kick that Callens headed into the next.

NYCFC had built a big lead with a 5-3 victory at Alajuela, Costa Rica, on Feb. 20 when Heber registered a hat trick.

Montreal Impact 0, Deportivo Saprissa 0

The Canadian and Costa Rican teams played to a scoreless draw at Montreal, allowing the Impact to advance to the quarterfinals on the away-goals tiebreaker.

The teams played to a 2-2 draw at San Carlos, Costa Rica, on Feb. 19, with Saprissa scoring twice in the last 10 minutes to wipe out a two-goal deficit.

The Impact's quarterfinal opponent will be either the Seattle Sounders or Club Deportivo Olimpia. The Sounders and Olimpia drew 2-2 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Feb. 20, and they will play their second leg in Seattle on Thursday.
